LISTENING TASK

 SMALLER PLATE CAN REDUCE OBESITY

A new research said that using smaller plates, knives, forks, glasses and other tableware could help people to reduce the amount of food we eat. If we use a large plate, we will fill it with food which means we eat too much.
A research of Cambridge University in the UK suggested that using smaller plate could lower the amount of food we eat and help people to prevent over eating without doing any fancy diet.
Dr. Gareth Hollands and the team research that there are some good ways to help people reduce their risk of obesity by reducing their size, availability, appeal in shops and restaurants.

FOOD CRIME IS AN INTERNATIONAL PROBLEM

There is a new and growing danger with the food we eat. Criminal gangs are selling billions of fake food to supermarkets around the world. That could be dangerous food. In the past a few years there have been scandals, In Britain police found tons of horse meat in products that were labeled as beef and the police also found cheaper peanut powder instead of almond flour. This could be harm or kill people. In 2008, 6 babies died in China after drank fake milk powder. The gangs can make much money from this business by making fake food than selling drugs. The assistant director of Interpol, told the BBC that food crime is similar to the drugs trade. In 33 countries food crime is a serious international problem. The police found children's candies that were dyed with a poisonous chemical, 430.000 l of fake drinks and 22 tons of long-grain rice that was labeled as high-quality rice. The British government said that using technology might be the only way to beat the food crime.

 FOOD WASTE

Seattle is introducing a system to fine people who waste food. People will get $1 fine if more than 10% of their garbage is food and $50 for business. Because American waste 40% of the food they buy so that's why the government want to reduce the amount of food that people and business waste. It also aims to increase the amount of waste it recycles from 56% to 60%. It doesn't aim to make money or raise revenue but this system is made to make people aware recycling is so important.

TORAJA

I once went to Toraja with my friends and her parents, i went there when i was about 8. I distincly still remember how long the trip it was because Toraja is quite far from Makassar. I went there by car and i stayed there for about 3 days. When i arrived in Toraja, my friend's parents tried to find any hotel because we arrived in midnight.

On the first day i went to a small village where i could see a lot of traditional dwellings of Toraja. Toraja traditional house is so unique, it looked narrow outside but it was large inside. Lucky me for i got a chance to come in one of the houses,an old man which was my tour guide told me a lot about the building. Every house has buffalo horns hanging on the walls. I don't even know what those are for but Toraja people believe that those all are for luck.

On the next day i went to a cemetery. As we know that Toraja people have a unique and different tradition to bury someone. They don't burn it or bury it inside a hole but they just put the bodies in a cave. I visited the cave or a cemetery exactly and i could see so many skulls even on the ceiling of the cave. I also saw 3 chests on the corner of the cave and the guide told me that they just passed away several days ago so they had to be kept in their chests. All of tourists were taking pictures with the skulls but if we had to be careful because the cave was slippery. There were so many furnitures that are kept in the cave because in Toraja, when there's someone dies the family have to bring him his favorite stuff in order to he doesn't get lonely. There were table, plate, doll, cupboard, glass even television. And one thing that is unexplainable, the smell of the cave ain't bad though there are only bodies inside, but the cave was so humid and kinda spooky since it was my first time. Outside the cave there's a huge cliff, it's a cemetery as well but it's just for the elder or people who have high position in the habitants. They will be buried on the cliff, the higher their places the higher the cliff they get. I saw there were a lot of dolls on the edge of the huge and long cave, the dolls were made alike people that are dead so it means that there are more than 300 dolls there. I also looked around to baby's cemetery. For babies they have different place, when there's a baby dies he will be buried on the big tree in order to no fierce animals can reach him out.

On the last day, i went to a restaurant where i could taste Toraja traditional food. I forgot what was is that name but it was made of sago and i did like it because it tasted different with any food from Makassar. I also went to souvenir shops to buy some souvenirs to my family and my friends. I bought a few key chains, traditional cloths, coffe, and a box made of wood. Then, i got back to Makassar after lunch.

Psychology Perspectives

Psychology Perspectives

There are various different approaches in contemporary psychology.
An approach is a perspective (i.e. view) that involves certain assumptions (i.e. beliefs) about human behavior: the way they function, which aspects of them are worthy of study and what research methods are appropriate for undertaking this study. There may be several different theories within an approach, but they all share these common assumptions.
You may wonder why there are so many different psychology perspectives and whether one approach is correct and others wrong.  Most psychologists would agree that no one perspective is correct, although in the past, in the early days of psychology, the behaviorist would have said their perspective was the only truly scientific one.
Each perspective has its strengths and weaknesses, and brings something different to our understanding of human behavior.  For this reasons, it is important that psychology does have different perspectives to the understanding and study of human and animal behavior.
Below is a brief summary of the 5 main psychological approaches (sometimes called perspectives) in psychology.
